Learning the Bigger Picture
More and more schools are focusing on academic success and forgetting to teach kids some of the most important lessons of life such as focus, diligence, and self-motivation. Another things that needs to be taught is control. This is seen in how the kids are using the social networking sites. Sure, they know how to use all the available features but some of them do not understand the consequences of what they are doing online or even how they are using the internet phones. One of the things that parents can do to help their children develop into successful adults is to praise their hard effort and not necessarily the product of the effort. This in turn will encourage them to keep working hard to produce the success. Another way that parents can help is by showing kids not just the information that is needed but also the skills that are needed to find that information. Where do you think the schools are headed? Is there really too much focus on getting good grades and not enough on working on long term characters of these kids?
